Welcome to the WEIRD CHIC IT LIST. Where I tell you about weird and chic things I’m obsessing over. Today we’re talking niche (and in a shocking twist, something not so niche) perfumes, fashion, & skin. Let’s cut the butter fat and get straight to the bread.

The edit: grounding, woody, cozy, sensorial. Scents I wear when I want to feel connected to myself.

  1. Sacred Santal by CYKLAR — Perfume oils, body creams, body wash, body OIL as of last week… I know I usually suggest fragrances from more underground lines, but I can’t deny when something really is just that good. This 1000% is my favorite bodycare line. And Sacred Santal in particular is an incredible base for literally any perfume combo (or on its own). Notes: Bergamot, Cardamom, Ambrette, Guaiac Wood, Benzoin, Amber, Velvet Musk, Cashmere Wood, Vanilla

  2. Rock River Melody by Régime Des Fleurs — Alexa Chung’s favorite, and now one of mine. It’s not too verdant of a green, but it is wet and mossy. Just in a more cozy way. Kind of in an old English mossy stone home way. Not strictly forest, more like you’re the mysterious aunt who lives in the forest in a cool cozy house with big windows you can watch the blue rain from. Notes: Hedera Ivy, Galbanum, Bergamot, Green Sap, Patchouli, Narcissus, Rose, Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber, Musk

  3. Au Coeur Du Désert by Andy Tauer — Piggybacking off of the grounded nature of Rock River Melody, if that was grounding in a wet mossy way, this is grounding in a dry, spiced dust way. Inspired by Moroccan spice markets. Notes: Coriander, Cumin, Cedar, Patchouli, Ambergris, Resin

  4. Onsen Saru Hot Spring Skin Scent by Miyashiro Studio — Another perfume oil. It’s kind of my thing right now. Something about the tactile and intimate experience of rolling on an oil feels really soothing to me in these less-than-ideal times. This fragrance is transportive and photorealistic; even if your body is at the office, your mind can be at the hot springs. Notes: Japanese Matsu pine, Cedarwood, Snow

The edit: The weird chic it girl’s latest elevated staples. Interesting up-and-coming brands with strong creative direction.
